Walmart may not be the first place you’d expect to find clothes that could pass for designer, but lately, its fashion section has been serving serious boutique energy — without the boutique price tags. That’s especially true of the retailer’s in-house labels, including Scoop, from celebrated fashion designer Brandon Maxwell. The brand’s Stanton Stovepipe Jeans have gone viral on TikTok thanks to their uncanny resemblance to Khaite’s cult-favorite Abigail jeans. The designer pair rings in at $620, nearly 21 times the price of Walmart’s denim doppelgängers. Plus, they look convincing enough to make even the most devoted fashion snob do a double take.
Walmart
These sleek jeans are latest I-can’t-believe-it’s-Walmart find that’s taken social media by storm.
The Khaite jeans earned their it-item status after being spotted on A-listers including Rihanna, Ariana Grande and Shailene Woodley. But if dropping more than $600 on denim isn’t exactly in your budget, TikTok says Walmart’s look-alikes are the next best thing. Creator @TaylorDaniel72 called the Scoop pair “genuinely almost identical to the Khaite Abigail jeans, even down to the button,” before adding, “They’re so comfortable!” And TikToker @Kenziedepinto agreed: “They are very much giving Khaite. Down to the black button. They are so soft.”
And the similarities go well beyond that telltale button. Both pairs of jeans feature a high-rise waist, a streamlined fit through the hips and sleek stovepipe legs for a polished, leg-lengthening effect. Walmart’s version is made from 99% cotton with 1% spandex for a touch of stretch, while Khaite’s jeans use a remarkably similar blend of 98% cotton and 2% polyurethane. The $30 pair has easier upkeep too. Scoop’s jeans are machine-washable, while Khaite recommends either washing its denim by hand or sticking it in the freezer overnight to freshen it up. (Yes, the freezer. Apparently, luxury denim comes with some fairly exotic homework.)
Both styles have a classic five-pocket design and come in three washes, but Walmart really wins when it comes to size inclusivity. Khaite’s jeans are available in sizes 23-30, roughly equivalent to U.S. sizes 00-12. The Scoop pair, meanwhile, runs from size 0 to 28 Plus. They may not be stitch-for-stitch identical, but the Walmart jeans nail the expensive-looking silhouette — and in our book, a wider size range and easier care make them look even better.
